On behalf of the Organising Committee, we invite you to the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCOA) Conference 2019.
The conference provides an opportunity for heads of medical regulatory bodies to gather and exchange knowledge as well as expertise on various medical challenges within the African continent.
Held annually, the AMCOA Conference attracts approximately between 150 to 250 global health leaders from over 20 different countries including:
- Representatives of organisations that are members or associates of AMCOA
- Board members and staff of medical regulatory authorities
- Medical educators and accreditors of medical education
- Board members and staff of other health practitioner regulatory authorities
- Agencies that deal with complaints about health practitioners
- Government agencies who are involved in medical workforce and regulation
The 2019 AMCOA Conference is hosted by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ), a statutory body established in terms of Section 29 of the Health Professions Act (Chapter 27:19) whose responsibility is to regulate the medical and dental professions in Zimbabwe.
The functions of the Council inter-alia are to REGISTER, EDUCATE AND DISCIPLINE the medical and dental professions.
The conference will focus on THE ROLE OF THE HEALTH REGULATOR IN THE DELIVERY OF UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE. Below are some of the topics encompassing the theme of the conference.
Quality assurance as a prerequisity for universal health coverage
Patient safety and compensation for harm
Financial resource strategies for the delivery of universal health coverage
Human resources planning as a recipe for universal health coverage
The Conference is aimed at providing a platform where African and International medical regulators, policy makers and academics share ideas, experiences and learn from each other with a view to enhance the health of the population of Africa.
A diverse programme involving both African and local speakers will underpin AMCOA’s purpose – to support medical regulatory authorities in Africa in the protection of the public interest by promoting high standards of medical practice, education, registration and regulation, and facilitating the ongoing exchange of information among medical regulatory authorities.
The Conference will also provide networking opportunities through a unique social programme and experience majestic feel of the Victoria Falls.

All visitors require valid passports. With the introduction of the visa regime all countries around the globe were grouped into three categories i.e.
CATEGORY A – Countries, whose nationals do not require visas at all,
CATEGORY B – Countries whose nationals are granted visas at the port of entry on payment of the requisite visa fees,
CATEGORY C – Countries whose nationals are required to apply for and obtain visas prior to travelling.
